It was Build in 1918 for the house of Mr.Tsunegoro Chiba.
His uncle made his fortune with tobacco and later became a baron. His father was in steel business. The house was a wedding gift to him from his father.
Mr.Chiba who had spent some time studying in the United States asked for the western style house and the final design came from the collaboration between he, the architect, Mr Kurokawa and the construction company, Takenaka Komuten. It was a very special house for that period for its style and cost, as well as the time it took to build.
There were 6 people in the Chiba family including Mr. & Mrs. Chiba and 4 children. They had 10 maids and care takers in total.
The floors and walls were build with reinforced concrete. The roof is wood. Originally there were boiler room and swimming pool on the basement, a living room, dinning room, kitchen and study on the first floor, and the master bed room and children's rooms on the second floor. The attic was for the storage. Later they added a sitting room and Japanese room as an annex.
The house left the hands of the original owner, the Chiba family in about 1951, and since 1981 it has been restored and used as a restaurant / membership club.
